Born in Umeå 1961, Danemo is a Stockholm-based drummer and composer whose music has an unerring feeling for dynamics and form. Words like “explosive” and “unpredictable” are often used to describe his drumming, while critics have variously called the many recordings and tours he has been involved in as “forward thinking”, “creative” and “unpredictable”. Danemo has received commissions from, among others, Swedish Radio’s P2 Musik Jazzradion, Svenska Rikskonserter (The Swedish Concert Institute) and the Copenhagen Art Ensemble. In 2015, he was the composer-in-residence for the highly respected and hugely popular Norrbotten Big Band. The project led to a tour in december 2016 and the release of the CD Hedvigsnäs. The latest commission was from Swedish National Radio P2, which was premiered november 2020 with his newly started group Gläntan. A nonet consisting of both jazz and classical players. Danemo has formed and played in a wide range of groups during his career. For example: Peter Danemo Quartet, Peter Danemo Kapell, Lundin/Danemo Quartet (and Quintet) and the very unusual group LED. Inspired by the element of improvisation in rock music like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Danemo has written very creative and personal arrangements for hand-picked musicians, all within the absolute elite of improvisational jazz in Sweden. As mentioned earlier, his latest effort is the group Gläntan. Lookout for a future release!
