The Xav's rap interest began in 1986 after hearing Rakim's "Check Out My Melody". In 1993, Xav and his brother started a group called Sons of Sam, whose "Oooh He Got An Afro / Charisma" 12" gained underground classic status and even in 2020 continues to change hands for several hundred bucks.
