Biography

Performing moody and adventurous pop music that's artful yet emotionally direct, Knife and Fork is a collaboration between Eric Drew Feldman and Laurie Hall. Feldman is a noted multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer who has recorded and toured with Captain Beefheart, the Pixies, Pere Ubu, Frank Black, the Residents, and PJ Harvey, while Laurie Hall is best known for her work as bassist and vocalist with the group Ovarian Trolley, as well as singing with the vocal ensemble the Hall Flowers (who also feature her mother and sister) and the eclectic folk-rock outfit Ruby Howl. In 1999, Feldman met Hall, and the two began writing music together. Their musical partnership led to the formation of Knife and Fork, and in 2004, the duo released their first album, Miserycord, which featured guest appearances by Tim Mooney of American Music Club and frequent Tom Waits collaborator Joe Gore. Knife and Fork toured in support of the album, including a string of dates opening for PJ Harvey. The duo's many musical commitments kept Knife and Fork on hold for the next several years, but Feldman produced an album for Ruby Howl in 2011, and in 2012 Knife and Fork reconvened to release their second LP, titled The Higher You Get the Rarer the Vegetation. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
