Black is brightest at midnight. Taiphoon, born Tycarius Montrell Cummings, finds peace and solitude in crafting layered soundscapes and flowing on them to show who he truly is and wants to be. Raised in Thomson, GA but now based in Atlanta, Taiphoon wants to show his versatility and proficiency as a producer. Growing up listening to backpacker hip-hop from Kanye West, he has since evolved and uses the influences from the Chi-town legend along with Kid Cudi, Drake, Future, Alicia Keys, and John Mayer to perfect his melodies and tones. Trying to actively create his own vibrations and tone, Taiphoon doesn’t need to fit as his voice and story is unique to him but hopes that listeners can relate. Releasing his first album, Illsoul, back in 2014, Taiphoon has come a long way. Originally having a trap-based flare with an alternative kick, Taiphoon has always prided himself on never having two songs sound the same. Constantly improving himself, he now returns with the EP, Midnight. Using the project as a therapy session, Taiphoon says this project was inspired by the emotional trials and tribulations he’s faced with love and feeling alone. Trying to cope with these emotions on a project that starts off with pop harmonies and a dark undertone in the lyrics, he surfs the sound to find reconciliation with himself. Planning to release another project before the year ends to serve as a companion piece to this, Cummings hopes to create the Taiphoon that lasts for years to come.
