Biography

Graham Massey is a producer /remixer/multi instrumentalist /composer from Manchester, UK. Massey became active in a number of bands in the late 70s & early 80s including; Danny And The Dressmakers / The Beach Surgeon. A member of Manchester's post punk stalwarts Biting Tongues (on Factory Records), before forming 808 State with A Guy Called Gerald and Martin Price in 1988. Having now lead 808 State for 30 years, Massey's extra curricular activities include co-writing and producing Army Of Me and Modern Things on Bjork's album 'Post'. A plethora of Remixes including Primal Scream’s 'Don't Fight It FeelI It', Future Sound Of London’s 'Papua New Guinea' and Blue Pearl’s 'Naked In The Rain' to mention just a few. His long running Toolshed project is a tribute to outsider musics of Sun Ra, Morricone et al, but also his own compositions for a 28 piece big band with singer Seaming To and long term collaborator Paddy Steer (Massey was a member of Steer’s “Homelife”, also contributing writing and performing wind instruments on subsequent albums in recent years). Massonix is a moniker used for Massey’s more ambient and experimental outings for the labels Skam and Finders Keepers, also touring the U.S and Japan with Autechre in 2009. The Sisters Of Transistors saw Massey take up the drums, composition & production duties for his all girl organ quartet. His most recent collaboration is an album with Umut Caglar of Turkish Free Jazzers Konstukt called 'Kicked From The Stars'.
