Donna Thompson is a key figure and collaborator in the increasingly legendary Total Refreshment Centre, and a musician multi-instrumentalist who released her debut EP on PRAH Recordings, Something True in 2022. “I’ve kinda been doing musical things all my life. After a tumultuous few years of temp jobs whilst trying to stay afloat and a few failed projects I was ready to pack it in though” Donna says. “Then I got an email from Bellatrix, the beatboxer, bassist extraordinaire asking if I wanted to play drums in her live show. That’s when I decided to give music another go. I met Alabaster Deplume and he has become a mentor through this stage of connecting my art to a wider circle.” “Working on this EP was a way to sketch my own world in the way I hear it now, having been through all of that.” Growing up and going through Goldsmith’s College chiefly as a drummer and lyricist, Something True was in fact initially put together on piano at the Total Refreshment Centre. With encouragement from the TRC community to develop these skeletal ideas she then took a trip down to the PRAH studio in Margate where she was joined friends John Atterbury (guitar), Hannah Miller (cello) and Alabaster Deplume (sax) to lay down some parts.
