Johannes Cernota was born in 1955 in Visbek/Germany. He studied at the Musikhochschule Köln and at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen in the piano soloist classes of professors L. Ortis, K. Seibert + G. Ludwig. Further impulses from international master classes. Cernota is a successful composer, concert pianist and visual artist. Concert engagements as well as radio + television recordings, compositions, performances, sound installations and exhibitions take him home and abroad. His CD recordings have earned Cernota international recognition. The first LP/CD “Johannes Cernota plays Erik Satie” has become the most widespread Satie recording in Germany and made Cernota one of the composer’s most sought-after interpreters. His second publication with Satie’s works, Erik Satie – Sport & Vergnügen, was also extensively discussed and praised in the feature pages of the major daily newspapers. The recording with compositions by Chaplin “Oh! That Cello” was awarded the German Record Critics’ Prize . Cernota’s commitment to combining the genres of music and painting became evident in his record production “Sparta”, which he named after his oil painting: Sparta. New piano works followed. In addition to his impressive piano playing, Cernota inspires the audience with his profound varied, often humorous programme design: a repertoire that goes beyond the classical repertoire.
