The Choir of St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, was formed in 1348 when King Edward III founded The College of St George to be the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter. With the exception of the Commonwealth Period (1649-60), The Choir of St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle has has sung services in St George’s Chapel continuously since then. Begun as a choir of boys and men, the choir is now made up of boy and girl choristers and twelve resident Lay Clerks, professional singers who provide the adult voices of alto, tenor and bass. The Choir sings eight services a week and draws on a large repertoire of music from all ages and traditions. Members of the public are always welcome to hear the Choir at these regular services, details of which can be found at www.stgeorges-windsor.org. The Choir sings regularly in the presence of His Majesty The King and other members of the Royal Family. In 2018, this included singing at both Royal Weddings in St George’s Chapel: for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex in May, and for HRH Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank in the October. In September 2022, the choir sang at the Committal Service for Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in St George’s Chapel. In 2019 the choir released a CD of Christmas music on the Hyperion label which was met with critical acclaim. The choir has also broadcast on radio, most recently in June 2022 with Sunday Worship (BBC Radio 4) and Choral Evensong (BBC Radio 3).
