After the huge international success of Gruppo Sportivo’s debut album ‘Ten Mistakes’ (1977) and follow-up ‘Back To 78’ (1978), the band’s leader and songwriter Hans Vandenburg launched his first solo-project The Buddy Odor Stop with album ‘Buddy Odor Is A Gas!’ (1979). Featuring Gruppo sounding pop on side A and jazz on side B. After focusing most of the 80’s and early 90’s on Gruppo Sportivo, Hans released his first solo album under his own name in late 1994, called ‘Commercial Break’. Preceded by the rocking single and video ‘This Day Is Fine’. In 1998 Hans launched his first band with songs sung in Dutch: Dierenpark. Debut album ‘Uit Het Leven Gegrepen’ featured songs such as ‘Dag Dromen’, ‘Jij Bent Mij’ en ‘Poppiedool’, which is still on Hans his solo setlist. So are ‘Ik Zoek Een Blonde Vrouw Met Donker Haar’ and ‘Jezus’ from follow-up album ‘Sliptong’ (2002). Through the 2000’s and 2010’s Hans released both Gruppo Sportivo and solo albums. Highlights include the acclaimed ‘Dig It Yourself’ (2015) - featuring the Herman Brood co-write 'Groovin'' and Nine Inch Nails re-make 'Various Methods Of Escape' - and latest album ‘Posthumourly’ (2020), which touches on a variety of subjects including lost love (‘I Don't Know’), advancing years (‘When You Grow Old’) and tribute bands (‘Jimi’s Dead’) a.o. Into the 2020's Hans Vandenburg is still as productive and creative as he ever was.
