Kathy Taylor is a singer songwriter and guitarist, as well as a writer and retired professor of Spanish and Linguistics. A passionate polyglot, she loves languages and their cultures and is fascinated by language in general, including the language of music. She has lived in Mexico, Nicaragua, Ireland, Curaçao and Germany and has written songs in Spanish, Portuguese, German and Papiamentu (a Caribbean Creole language), as well as in English. As a songwriter, she considers the sounds of words to be an important part of the music, and her guitar adds its own voice. Her songs write themselves into existence in whatever genre or language they need, so her music covers a wide range of styles. She began playing guitar and singing at age ten, and has gone through periods of folk, classical guitar, Latin, jazz, blues, world music and a bit of rock and pop. She has recorded six CDs and a number of YouTube videos and occasionally performs locally with her husband Peter (as Off the Grid) and with other musicians from the area. Retirement from her day job has allowed her life to fill with music and writing in her “off the grid” mountain home in Colorado.
