Biography

shouldBsweet Ryan uses his love for rhyme schemes & metaphors as a vehicle to tell his story. His messages are often enveloped in his penchant for Swimming, Hip-Hop and Aotearoa culture. A 90’s child his music speaks to a generation that were the last to experience a social media free existence. “We purchased CDs, we watched the Holla Hour, we took pride in the formatting of our I-Tunes libraries.” "Helping Aotearoa Hip-Hop feel comfortable in it’s own skin." Jay Knight The precocious Jay Knight got his start in the game early. Crafting some of your favourite golden era Young Gifted and Broke tracks. His work ethic and talent is unmatched. In an era where everyman and his dog is a “beat maker”, Jay is so much more. He is a producer. He is invested in all aspects of helping to curate the final product. Jay doesn’t make “type beats” he has his own sound that is tailored to the nuances of the artists he works with. He draws on a range of influences from electronic music to Hip-Hop with a penchant for high hats. The soundscapes are never monotonous, yet never scatty. “I used to rip Jay Knight beats off the internet and spit my shitty rips to them. In the early 2010s Jay was a bucket list producer for me to work with. 10 years on I manifested my vision and I now have an album with him that I am incredibly proud of.” To me, I can hear heartland Aotearoa in his music yet it stands on it’s own internationally. It’s like Mad-lib meets Fred Dagg. -shouldbsweet
