Biography
Praised by critics for her “focused intensity and extraordinary musicianship" (San Diego Union Tribune), “superb tone”, and “high level of interpretative intelligence” (Transcentury), Korean-American cellist DEBORAH PAE has received international acclaim for her powerful performances, uncompromising curiosity for expression, and devotion to the arts. Pae has appeared as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, and Asia, at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, Wigmore Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonie, and the 45th GRAMMY Awards at Madison Square Garden. Ms. Pae is the cellist of the award-winning Formosa Quartet, recipients of the First Prize and Amadeus Prize at the 2006 International London Quartet Competition, and founding member of the Namirovsky-Lark-Pae Trio, winners of the German Record Critics Award (2020), Tarisio Trust Young Artist Grant (2016), and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition (2012). She has recorded numerous solo and chamber music works for radio and television broadcast and for labels including New World, TYXarts, Bridge, and Outhere Records. Ms. Pae is committed to mentoring the next generation of young artists. She is Professor of Cello at Eastern Michigan University, cello and chamber music faculty at a number of international festivals. She travels and performs with her trusty companion, a Vincenzo Postiglione cello (c. 1885) from Naples, Italy.
