Biography

With music his vernacular, Swindle's deft genre-fusing productions are born from a variety of foundations. Coming of age during the 90s epoch of pirate radio and raised on a constant backdrop of jungle, drum and bass, garage, alongside the jazz, funk and soul record collection of his musician father, Swindle was making music from his young teens preferring to play on cubase than a playstation. Evident in his inaugural release, The 140 Mixtape, presenting an amalgamation of piano keys and ghoulish grime, to his most recent album No More Normal, which saw him level up in the art of storytelling, and the scope of his music making, moving between hip-hop, jazz and soul, Swindle has continually evolved whilst keeping his original influences and creative spark. A stalwart of UK music, throughout his career Swindle has released on iconic imprints (Butterz, Deep Medi, Brownswood) and collaborated with everyone from D Double E, to Ghetts, to Mahalia, Celeste and more. A true sonic chameleon, his efforts has been continually praised across the board with champions in the likes of NME, Resident Advisor, RedBull, CLASH as well as major support from tastemakers including Annie Mac, Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Target and Clara Amfo. The South London native returns in 2021 after one of the hardest years, with an intimate next release, conceptualised at the dawn of 2020's easing of lockdown and in the shadow of a global consciousness raising after the death of George Floyd.
