Biography

Dr Maciej Zakrzewski, organist, composer, improviser, lecturer at the Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk. He graduated with honors from Academy of Music in Gdansk. In 2019 he recived a doctoral degree in music for his dissertation about Naji Hakim’s Organ Works. He has participated in many organ and composition competitions. He has won first prize at the 7th J. P. Sweelinck International Organ Competition and fourth prize in the „Premio Elvira di Renna” International Organ Competition in Italy. In 2010 he received the „Golden Laurel for Young Organist” at the 33rd International Festival of Organ and Chamber Music in Giżycko. In his career Maciej Zakrzewski has actively participated in numerous master classes, having had opportunity to work with such splendid organists including Olivier Latry, Pieter van Dijk, Wolfgang Zerer, Lorenzo Ghielmi, Helmut Deutsch, Martin Hoselbeck, Pierre Damiano Peretti. He has also participated in master classes of improvisation under the direction of Pierre Pincemaille, Tomasz Adam Nowak. Maciej Zakrzewski co- operates on a regular basis with Discantus” Chamber Choir with whom he recorded contemporary music. He also recorded music by Franz Liszt, Charles Marie Widor, Feliks Nowowiejski, Naji Hakim, Daniel Magnus Gronau and contemporary composers. His own CD’s (with solo organ music by Liszt, Widor and Hakim) get a great reviews in music press. As a composer Zakrzewski wrote mostly for organ, voice and chamber orchestra.
