Biography

Momoko Watanabe Gill, also known as MettaShiba, is a London-based composer/producer/songwriter and musician whose primary instruments are drum kit and voice, and also plays keyboards, vibraphone and whatever is put in front of her with trust and mischief. She grew up between Japan, the US and UK and has a mixed cultural background. Momoko has a duo project with poet/rapper Nadeem Din-Gabisi, An Alien Called Harmony, and co-wrote the music for Nadeem’s solo album Pool with Coby Sey, produced by Beni Giles. She is often playing and touring with many London-based artists including Tirzah, Alabaster DePlume and Coby Sey. Momoko gravitates towards alternative approaches to jazz, soul, traditional musics, hip-hop, improvisation, and enjoys working with ‘anybody who has a bold, original voice.’ Momoko is currently writing her solo album, and An Alien Called Harmony's first EP will be released this year.
