Life is a journey we all have to endure but no one person’s story is the same. The story of Bishop Freeze is one of a felon turned executive director. Growing as a child, Freeze was easily influenced by his surroundings and the people in his life and found himself drawn to life in the streets of Hilltop Tacoma. By the age of 14, Freeze’s stepfather had taught him how to hold and shoot a gun, sell drugs, steal, and commit various other crimes, and a life of wrongdoing became second nature to Dwayne. When he was 20, Freeze got involved in the gang life and eventually became the leader of one of the worst gangs in Washington, being dubbed as “OG Freeze”. For the better part of the next 13 years, Dwayne was in and out of prison. By 2000, Dwayne had done and seen enough to realize that the life of crime was not one he wanted to continue to follow. One October night while in his prison cell, Freeze was drawn into repentance by God. He got on his knees in fervent prayer and surrendered his life to Christ, asking the Lord to come into his heart and change him from his wicked ways and break the curse of sin, crime, violence and gangs in his life. From that day forward, the man known as “OG Freeze” was no more and the reformation of the man to become “Bishop Freeze” had started. Bishop Freeze continues to passionately share the love of Christ, giving back to his community, helping transform young lives one at a time.
