Biography

I’m an organist and (ahem) musicologist. Since 2001, I’ve been based in Melbourne. For most of the last seventeen years, I’ve played the organ regularly in churches. (The above photo, taken by Chris Steward, shows me at the organ of St Aloysius’s Church, Caulfield, Victoria.) In 2017 I completed my BMus at Monash University’s Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music. Currently I’m in the throes of a PhD at the Sydney Conservatorium. My book César Franck: His Life and Times was the first study in English of this great composer in nearly four decades. It was published in 2012 by Scarecrow Press, Lanham, Maryland. Most of my musical compositions are published by Wirripang, of Wollongong, New South Wales. These are predominantly choral though with the occasional solo vocal work also.Released in July 2018, my first CD, The Gates of Vienna, is a collection of baroque organ works from the Habsburg Empire. It's on the Ars Organi label. And so is my second CD, Pax Britannica: Organ Music by Victorian and Edwardian Composers. That appeared in July 2019.
