Dárbbašan du

Biography

What started out as a comprehensive, emotional dive into his indigenous and northern Norwegian heritage, has become a profoundly personal album for Herman Rundberg. Composer and producer Rundberg is set to release first solo project as “Manne”. The first track released from the album is “Dárbbašan du” which means “I need you” - a song about love of nature, and the fear of losing it. The lyrics are written by Rundberg and 19 year-old Inger Márjá, who is also the artist featured on the track. Herman Rundberg has previously won the award for best original score in Amandaprisen for the Norwegian blockbuster-movie “Kautokeino-opprøret”. He has also composed for The Norwegian Opera & Ballet, the Nobel Peace Prize as well as toured with bands Violet Road and Alit Boazu. His indigenous identity has always been a natural part of Herman's artistic work. “Manne” offers a deep dive into Herman’s own background where melodies inspired by traditional joik and native hymns are combined with a modern musical landscape. Appearing on the album is the powerful Arctic Philharmonic as well as various indigenous artists and musicians from northern Norway: Mari Boine, Emil Kárlsen, Petter Carlsen, Inger Márjá and Petter Waldemar Nohr Unstad.
