Biography

HEGE HØISÆTER studied at The Royal Northern College of Music, UK, and at The Norwegian Opera Academy. She joined the Norwegian Opera & Ballet in 2002, where her primary roles have included: Sextus (La clemenza, Mozart), Carmen, Cornelia ( Giulio Caesare, Händel), Gräfin Geschwitz (Lulu, Berg), Ottavia (Poppea, Monteverdi), Kabanicha (Katya Kabanovà, Janàcek), Waltraute (Götterdämmerung, Wagner), Jocasta (Oedipus Rex, Stravinsky), and Mescalina ( Le Grand Macabre, Ligeti). In addition, Ms Høisæter has appeared in numerous world premieres, by distinguished composers such as Synne Skouen, Gisle Kverndokk, Glenn Erik Haugland, Ole Henrik Moe, Kjell Mørk Karlsen and Rolf Wallin. She has collaborated with conductors such as John Fiore, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Alessandro de Marchi, Antonino Fogliani, Lothar Königs and Evan Rogister, and performed under the direction of Stefan Herheim, Peter Konwitschny, Ole-Anders Tandberg, Stephen Langridge, Sir David Pountney and Willy Decker. Recently she has sung a leading role in Ballerina and as The Countess ( The Queen of Spades) at The Norwegian Opera&Ballet , more roles coming up in 2021/22. She is singing in all 4 of The Ring operas for The Gothenburg Opera- as Erda, Schwertleite and 1st Norne. Hege has been a frequent featured guest at The Casa dei Mezzo Music Festival, Crete, since 2009. Her singing has on numerous occasions been broadcast on national and international TV and radio.
