Biography

Benny has spent the past decade producing a notable array of artists and studio projects, recurrently on his label Gulf Point Records. Channelling the creative spark that launched super producers such as Nick Martinelli and Kashif to stardom in the 1980s, his contemporary take on this classic sound is both a distinctly fresh and deliciously nostalgic ticket to a time when things were simpler. His early years as a record collecting b-boy with an interest in vintage recording would propel his first musical outgoing: Nite Class. With friends De Konichiwa and Penelope Shum, Benny wrote and produced a prolific collection of songs in the style of his favourite records from the past. Released by Peoples Potential Unlimited, their debut “Love Scenes” was instantly regarded as a modern classic in the genre, being likened to groups such as S.O.S Band and The Cool Notes. With opportunity beckoning, Benny toured extensively throughout Asia, the US, Europe and UK. While based in Manchester he wrote material for what would become his current project Silver Linings, alongside Françoise d'Argent and Lachlan Peavey. Heavily affected by the rainy city's synthetically fused Jazz and electronic palette, their triumphant "So Good To You" LP soaked up these flavours, bolstered with session work by Melbourne locals Harvey Sutherland, Silentjay and more. Benny's latest release is Silver Lining's second studio album "Don't Make Tracks", available now.<br>
