Biography

Anthony Wilson (b. 1962) spent many hours at the piano as a child, experimenting with various combinations of sound. His parents’ record player also provided the wonderful experience of being able to enjoy both the world of classical music and popular music. Wilson graduated from Monash University in 1985, studying music and pure mathematics. He has also successfully completed the Associate in Music Australia for piano. With regard to the study of composition, Wilson is mainly self-taught, though he did have some private lessons with Haydn Reeder. Wilson has worked as a private music teacher for almost 30 years now; teaching Piano, Singing and Theory of Music to people of all ages. His compositions include works for orchestra, solo piano, chamber ensembles and vocal music. His works have been performed by several well known Australian orchestras, and by respected and accomplished chamber groups and soloists. Navona Releases: Wilson has had two of his orchestral compositions - ‘3 Flights of the Condor’, and ‘Manannán - Legend of the Sea’ - recorded by the ‘Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra’ and the ‘Brno Philharmonic Orchestra’ respectively. He has also had two of his vocal works – ‘Tears, Idle Tears’ and ‘A Bird Came Down the Walk’ – recorded by Alexis Peart (mezzo-soprano) and Yoko Hagino (piano).
