Hailing from the Naysayers404 collective in Wilmington, North Carolina, rapper and producer NADA made the leap to Los Angeles in 2018. He added “5150” — the California code for involuntary psychiatric commitment — to his name upon his arrival, and thus, NADA5150 was born. With a penchant for prioritizing genuine connections, he quickly established himself within the city’s underground rap scene, recording with names like CHXPOand KirbLaGoopwhile catching the attention of artistic idols-turned-collaborators like Prayers and Rozz Dyliams Through his provocative solo work, he found further success on a wide array of projects ranging from Knife Face to Bezerk and the limited edition Short Daddy mixtape in collaboration with the harm reduction nonprofit End Overdose. Alongside those releases, the most notable entry in NADA5150’s catalog is the acclaimed ScrewTape series, a string of projects that’s traced his evolution from hellish hip-hop to self-proclaimed house phonk. The next step in NADA5150’s journey is thus a major one with The ScrewTape 3, a project that reflects his newfound happiness through a more upbeat ethos, now on the horizon. With a steady drip of singles planned to unveil in the coming months, expect NADA5150’s most comprehensive artistic statement at the top of 2023.
