Biography

Mathangi Jagdish, is a versatile singer, songwriter, and performer born in Kolkata and raised in New Delhi. With over two decades of experience in the music industry, Ma.Ja has become a well-known and respected artist in India, having sung in more than 18 languages and contributed over 475 film songs to her credit. Her playback break came in 2001 with Anju Mani and Kokkarakara Girigiri for Mr. Deva, and she has since worked with some of the biggest names in the business, including Oscar and Grammy-winning composer A.R. Rahman, legendary music icon Illayaraja, and Oscar-winning M Keeravani, among others. 
 Ma.Ja is not only an accomplished singer, but was also an anchor, mentor, and judge on popular TV shows, such as Sangamam, Super Singer, Sangeetha Maha Yuddham, Tanishq Swarna Sangeetham, and Oliyum Oliyum. Trained in Carnatic, Hindustani, and Western music, her voice is a unique blend of multiple styles, incorporating elements of blues, jazz, R&B, and Indian classical music. Her songwriting is largely in English, driven by her personal experiences and covering themes ranging from everyday life struggles to profound philosophy. Her influences include artists such as Amy Winehouse, India Arie, Ella Fitzgerald, Adele, and Lauryn Hill.
