Biography

Dillalude is an Icelandic band that performs and interprets the music of J-Dilla (Jay-Dee) live on stage. J-Dilla, who was born James Dewitt Yancey, died at the age of 32 in 2006 following a long struggle with a rare blood illness. His untimely death came as a blow to Hip Hop fans worldwide for he is widely considered one of the most influential producers in the history of rap music. Dillalude comprises drummer Magnús Tryggvason, keyboardist Steingrímur Teague, producer and DJ B-Ruff, and trumpeter Ari Bragi Kárason. The band has received positive reviews for its interpretation of classic Dilla-produced joints such as Runnin' (Pharcyde) and Fall In Love (Slum Village). Dillalude has performed at various venues since its inception, e.g. at music festivals such as Sonar and Secret Solstice, and Kex-P (a concert series sponsored by the eponymous American radio station held at Kex Hostel in downtown Reykjavík). Whenever Dillalude performs at Prikið (the home of Hip-Hop in Iceland), the café-cum-nightclub is always jampacked. Dillalude's music has also been shared by the J Dilla Foundation (which Dilla's mother created after her son's death).
