Led by vocalist Ángel Ballesteros and backed by producers error.error (Efrén Coronado) and Bonsai Babies (To Robles), Meth Math, grew up in the manufacturing city of Hermosillo, Sonora, 1200 miles northwest of Mexico City. The band developed partially while Angel lived in Mexico City, and evolved a lot during covid when but Ballesteros had returned home. Their 2020 EP, Pompi, bedded down the thriving energy present in CDMX’s neo-perrero scene, but MM’S influences actually come from much further afield, they cite both Enya and Autechre amongst them. These influences converge more clearly on m♡rtal, their 2nd EP from 2022. Their new album was co-produced by the band and Miami club legend Nick León (Rosalia, Isabella Lovestory). The nine songs that make up this new collection are at once odes to heartbreak and invitations to the deep darkness of a post-apocalyptic club. Singer Angie adds, “I love people dancing in the dark, and I’m going to make things that appeal to the people I love. All art is like portals, and I’m excited that this portal is very big: Pompi was a little cave, and m♡rtal was an elevator door. Chupetones is a giant gate, the gates of heaven or hell.” Chupetones ("love bites") Meth Math's debut album, will be out February 2nd, 2024.
