Mai Bloomfield has a smile as bright as the sunshine of her home state of California, but she’s not afraid of the dark. Her music reaches into the depths of the heart and shines a light on the things that carry us through. A singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Mai has played around the world –whether singing her own songs at folk festivals, or backing up other artists (Jason Mraz, Sara Bareilles, Adam Cohen) on tour and tv. In 2016 she played cello on Leonard Cohen’s album “You Want It Darker.” Mai started playing cello at age 9, and writing songs on guitar by 15. After graduating from UC Santa Cruz, she became a founding member of the band Raining Jane, a harmonious foursome who blazed a trail touring the US, released multiple records, and formed a collaborative friendship with Jason Mraz. Mai is a co-writer on many songs released by Jason Mraz, including “Look For The Good” (2020), “Have It All” (2018), “Love Someone” (2014) and “A Beautiful Mess” (2008). She’s also received awards for her own songwriting from the Kerrville, Telluride, and Rocky Mountain Folks Festivals. As a breast cancer survivor, Mai funnels her passion for songwriting and service into charitable work doing speaking engagements and writing workshops. In 2010 Mai helped start “Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls Los Angeles” a social justice non-profit dedicated to empowering girls and gender expansive youth through music.
