Mico Sundari and Shivam Rath go by the artist names Micotsuki and Shivamoon, in honour of the full-crescent moon depicted by the Hindu god Shiva, and the semi-crescent moon known as “mika-tsuki” in Japan, Mico’s birth country. They have both practiced the arts of spiritual devotion through music for many years, with Indian classical music, the mystical world of raga and heart opening path of kirtan. “Micotsuki Shivamoon” is their spiritual sound duo, producing an authentic journey through traditional, mystical, and modern music. Shivam focuses on achieving technically perfect pitch, and explores the depths of sound vibration, raga, and rhythm. Mico feels the mood from her inner core, allowing her heart to soar through her voice, and out into the world of musical creation. As a child, Shivam Rath began traditional Indian Classical Music training guided by his father. As an adult, he resumed this study while doing a two-year Satyananda Yoga Diploma. Upon completion, he went to India in 2010-13 to meet and train with Pandit Chhote Lal Misra (his father’s tabla teacher) in Varanasi, and Indian slide-guitarist Dr Shibbanath Bhattacharya.
