Kansas City, KS rapper Travis Julian started out writing lyrics at the age of 14 as a challenge from his best friend Prentice Watson (R.E.S.). After constantly writing lyrics, Travis had a cousin give him a Yamaha keyboard to learn to play piano on. As the years went on, Travis realized that beats weren’t easy to come by and he started learning how to create beats to get his own sound. After many years of practicing his craft of lyricism and beat making, Travis began to develop his sound. While learning music, Travis played alto saxophone in middle school and high school band. Spending time with his cousins who were church musicians, Travis payed close attention to the drummers. The groove and attention that the drummers received made him grow more and more as a producer, especially when it came to the drum programming. Travis has been a part of a few hip hop groups, released a rap project in the early 2000’s, and continued to create music. His style is storytelling when it comes to lyrics and when it comes to production, he always has to have an element of live instrumentation. With his support of mental health, due to his own life with mental health issues, Travis has incorporated that into his music and uses that to help others in need of support.
