Komla MC was born in Ghana where he spent most of his childhood, and moved to England in his teenage years. His early exposure to music came from his parents’ extensive and diverse record collection with everything from highlife to disco, funk and even a dash of Kenny Rodgers. Then came the explosion of hip hop from across the pond with messages and sounds that he’d never heard before. Beginning in the 90s Komla’s love of all things hip hop carries right through to the present day with all its new directions. Having been a drummer & singer in many bands growing up, Komla honed his musical style & skills which eventually led to forming his first band Tiger Shadow, an alternative hip hop band that appeared on stages across Leeds including the well known 360 Club and the BBC Introducing stage at Reading & Leeds Festivals. More recently Komla has released several explorative & well received hip hop collaborations with label mates Fold, receiving generous support from Amazing Radio.
