Sidney Mills is a London born, Jamaican raised, artist and producer who has been instrumental in shaping the landscapes of both Hip-Hop/Rap and Reggae music since the late ‘70s. Sidney Mills is the CEO of his independent record label, production company and consulting firm, SPIMUSICINC, based out of Mercy Sound Studios in NYC. Mills career began by hanging out in St. Thomas JA with Outer Limits In 1981, & moved to NY to play with Calabash and A-Team Bands, backing up headliners such as Beres Hammond and Judy Mowatt. While with Mowatt, Mills was offered the chance to work with critically acclaimed reggae band, Steel Pulse. As the keyboardist for Steel Pulse, Mills has been involved with continuing the commitment of fighting injustice, promoting positive messages and educating the masses through spiritually uplifting music. While serving in this role, he was nominated for a Grammy Award as Best Reggae Producer. As a member of Boogie Down Productions, he produced some of Hip-Hop’s most influential masterpieces. Producing since 1980, Mills has collaborated with, among others, such musical heavyweights as: KRS-One, Queen Latifah, Wyclef Jean, Junior Reid, Ziggy Marley, Shinehead, Gwen Guthrie, Shaggy, Michael Stipes (R.E.M.), Shabba Ranks, Luciano, The Neville Brothers, Frankie Paul, Big Mountain, Dennis Brown, Dollarman, The Slackers, Sly and Robbie, Kevin Batchelor and Super Cat. Mills has also scored several films, including Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing.
