I Just Don't Know Where I Belong

Biography

James Allison is a producer and songwriter born in London, England and raised in the United States. In 2009 James settled in the Midwest and opened up Electraplay Recording Studio in Columbus, Ohio, where he got work with acts like Phantogram, Ezra Furman, and Damien Jurado. In 2015, he started the electronic synth-pop project, Digisaurus, which amassed national media attention and opening spots for Weezer, Matt & Kim, and Joywave. He spent the next 4 years touring and playing over 600 shows at dives, houses, coffee shops, breweries, wineries...wherever would have him. After putting his Digisaurus touring schedule on hold due to the pandemic, Allison built a new studio in Columbus and began making music under his own name. Those long drives up and down coasts, mountains, and back roads during his touring years were spent listening to the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Patti Smith. Allison wanted to create music based on simple melodies and introspective lyrics, and stripped himself of synthesizers and began focusing on composing around piano and guitar. The first single, “I Just Don’t Know Where I Belong,” tells the story of his last year on the road as he reflects on the things he gave up shuffling from town to town, and that person who finally gave him a glimpse of a different life beyond being a traveling performer. Allison’s debut solo album will be released in 2021.
