Tara Toms is a writer, mover, vocalist and improviser from the Mid-Atlantic. She performs widely as a solo artist and band leader for Weird Year and contributes regularly to the Open Music ensemble. She has been sponsored or worked in partnership with MIT Design X, 717 Arts, Susquehanna Art Museum, XFest, and numerous other progressive arts organizations. She has previously coordinated diy events and festivals throughout the region, led monthly free improvisation workshops, hosted several experimental concert series, and led mentorship programs for young artists. Her work is lyrically dense and cyclical, in composition and improvisation. She delivers emphatic vocal performance with vacillation between precise and unhinged control.
