There’s something extraordinary about Roy O. Hailing from Houston, TX by way of Warri, Nigeria, this rapper/songwriter is in a unique lane all his own. What sets Roy O., real name Oghogho Roy Efemena Osagie Mukoro, apart from the rest is that his story does not begin in the streets, nor does he pretend it does. Growing up in Warri, Nigeria, Roy O. moved to the United States to flee political persecution and financial hardships. Now, as a Music connoisseur, college graduate and martial artist, Roy O. brings a new viewpoint to hip hop music; the perspective of an African immigrant influenced by the Afro-beat culture of Nigeria, the lyricality and message of 90’s hip-hop and the melodies of the current music scene. In 2015, Roy O dropped “HUE,” his first commercial release. Since then, he dropped a mixtape “Scratch” in 2016, released his highly acclaimed “Ovie” album in 2017, and a follow-up EP “Remember You” in 2018. As his music has grown in popularity, it has caught the eye of publications such as Houston Press, Team Backpack, Hip-Hop Weekly magazine and KarenCivil.com who have given him rave reviews for his unique sound, lyricism, and wordplay. Now, with an impressive catalog under his belt and an upward career trajectory in his future, Roy O. continues to make music for anybody who dares to stand out. In his own words: “I’m not really stressing anything...I just wanna make the music I wanna make to help me and the people who need it, to deal with this crazy world.”
