Biography

Born in 1930, Arkansas saxophonist Monk Higgins taught music in Chicago while moonlighting as a musician. He worked with notable artists like Etta James and Koko Taylor, producing and arranging numerous recordings. His music, released on labels like Sack Records, ranges from funky vocals to jazzy instrumentals. In the 1960s, Higgins worked for One-Derful! Records and later collaborated with Chess, Blue Note, MCA, Dunhill, and Buddha. He also scored the Pam Greier film "Sheba, Baby." Higgins' personal label, Sack Records, features singles showcasing his talent. Though less known, these recordings are highly regarded by soul and jazz enthusiasts.
