Acclaimed by Latin Jazz Net as a “provocative, brilliant, visceral artist”, Gian-Carla Tisera was born in Bolivia and trained as an opera singer in the U.S. It was while living in New York City that she was inspired to experiment with the vanguardist musical concepts which provoked her to expand her artistic voice through a fusion of genres and cultural themes. Her first album Nora la Bella was co-produced by the Grammy-nominated Cuban pianist/producer Elio Villafranca, and features Grammy-winning artists such as drummer Yayo Serka (Lila Downs, Angelique Kidjo), five-time Grammy-winning bassist John Benitez and Grammy-nominated trumpeter Diego Urcola. Her second album Sounds of Quiroga was co-produced by Dominican-born drummer/arranger Arturo Peña, and features the extraordinary talents of twenty six Latin Jazz and World Music artists. She has released multiple single tracks featuring eminent Bolivian artists. She has also produced music videos filmed in Bolivia’s stunning landscapes, notably Señora Chichera and Lotus Love. The latter was filmed in the epic Salar de Uyuni (Uyuni Salt Flat), and co-produced by leading Bolivian producer Salomon Zannier. Gian-Carla’s music is inspired by the mysticism of indigenous nations, by the Afro-Latin diaspora, Bolivian folk, jazz, funk, soul, classical music, dance and spoken word. As an artist of Bolivian ancestry, she was awarded the Medal of Honor for Merit - one of the highest honors bestowed to a Bolivian citizen.
