Michael is an Emmy award-winning and Ivor Novello nominated composer-songwriter-musician with an extensive list of film, television, and popular music credits to his name. He has worked as a co-writer and/or musician with many iconic acts including Ian Dury, Soul II Soul, Steve Winwood/Traffic, and Curiosity Killed the Cat, and Lalomie Washburn. His film scores include Richard Loncraine’s Finding Your Feet starring Timothy Spall and Imelda Staunton and Richard Linklater’s Me and Orson Welles starring Zac Efron and Clare Danes. Television work includes the Peabody Award-winning BBC/PBS documentary, The Jazz Ambassadors, the ITV/Masterpiece Theatre miniseries Dark Angel with Joanne Froggatt, the landmark series for NatGeo, Alien Deep, Einstein’s Big Idea (PBS/Nova) and Battle of the Hood and Bismarck. Michael has written and produced three solo jazz albums. In 2018 his composition for jazz trio, Mother Medusae, featuring violinist, Thomas Gould, was nominated for an Ivor Novello Composer Award. He has a big band called The Jazz Sapiens, their first album ‘Remembrance: 1955 to 1963, released in November 2023.
