Biography

As a young man Neubauer left his homeland after studying in local schools. He went to Prague and also traveled to Munich, Vienna and Zurich. He not only met countrymen in these places he also met Haydn and Mozart who influenced his music. Holding various positions at Weilburg, Minden and Buckeburg, Neubauer had to contend with the Kapellmeister J.C.F. Bach at the latter. This prolific composer wrote in a number of genres including symphonies, concertos, quartets, duos, sonatas and chamber works. His music was characteristically the work of a skilled artisan who had the ability to fuse different elements from various composers. The symphonies, quartets and concertos reveal his most accomplished works in typical three movements, with balanced settings and an emphasis on transition keys common to the major and minor modalities. His quartets, interestingly, were arranged in such a manner as to give credibility to all voices rather than having a dominant melodic voice. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
