Greg Schutte is an American composer, producer and performer based out of Minneapolis MN. Raised on Rock n Roll, Jazz and later steeped in Americana, Soul, Funk and World Beat, Greg's music is an honest amalgam of his experience and creativity within all of these genres. Perhaps best known for his work as a session and touring drummer with Ryan Bingham, Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead), Chastity Brown and many others, Greg’s original works are inspired and informed by his experience and collaborations with these artists. Greg released 2 singles in early 2020. The first, “Morongo Stars”, originally recorded as an unspoken improv session between Greg and guitarist Mike Michel later was reimagined with Chris Thomson (sax) and Joey Van Phillips (Vibraphone). The 2nd single “Weight in Question” was written and performed in the studio by Greg and features Tommy Barbarella (Hammond B3) and Mike Michel (guitar). Greg’s newest Ropeadope Records “45 LP style” release features an A Side Single “The Burning Page” featuring Todd Clouser’s original lyrics and voice and Jacquiline Ultan on Cello. All other instruments on the track were written and performed by Greg, recorded at his Bathtub Shrine Recording studio in Minneapolis. The “B” Side features “Lovely Light”, a song inspired by improvisations with Mickey Hart at his studio in Sebastopol CA. “Often times, after the band would leave for rehearsals Mickey and I would stay up late playing drums together.
