isthatCJ, well known, and formerly known, as HBK CJ. I’m an artist out of Oakland, CA, who breathes music. I don’t only talk it, I live it! I grew up here in the Bay Area making music and spreading nothing but peace and love. I found millions of reasons to do so, however, I found out that writing music allows me to speak for others and change perceptions of the world song by song rap by rap. I learned early that the appreciation to heart felt music doesn’t pay off with dollar signs, it pays with life changing experiences along with the ability to change people, for the good. Words can do a lot to people, and I chose, early on, to take on the roll as a lyricist who reaches out and speaks for what people believe is real. I first started releasing music in 2008, locally with Bay Area’s party culture collective, HBK, where I gained a good portion of my following, before branching off to explore the industry as a solo artist. I moved around for a few years to Los Angeles and Las Vegas where I benefited from a world of different listeners and viewers which helped me grow into the artist I am today. I am currently actively releasing music as well as performing my music and always looking for the next move. While on such a journey, my goal is to continue to prove to my followers that they believe in something real and to give us a more realistic outlook on the definition of a true artist and if that’s what the case may be, then I am willing to end my days doing just that.
