Biography

Melanie is an internationally acclaimed performer and has sung at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Royal Albert Hall. She is the leading expert in historic songs about knitting and spinning. She has also written several plays featuring historic music (Piaf and Brel: The Impossible Concert, Stitch in Time, A Toast to Prohibition) and Ingenue, about Deanna Durbin and Judy Garland, had a sold out Off-Broadway run at SoHo Playhouse and won a Best Musical Award at the Adelaide Festival. Melanie divides her time between Edmonton, Canada and New York City. Her first book, Deanna Durbin, Judy Garland and the Golden Age of Hollywood, was released in August 2022 by Lyons Press. Melanie’s CDs include: Min HaLev (Hebrew, Yiddish and Ladino songs), La Nuit en Rose (Somgs from the cabarets of France), Knitting all the Day and Sweeter in a Sweater (“Lost” knitting songs from WWI and WWII), Highway Rhapsody (Classical ballads and other popular songs), and Alberta Excursion (Original music celebrating the province of Alberta).
