KAVA has been creating psychedelic sounds since 2010. While their sound morphs from album to album, experimentation and improvisation remain at the core. KAVA takes chances and puts the listening experience at the forefront. Wintercamp 22 ,their latest release, was recorded live at the Logan Square Auditorium during the Wintercamp Music Festival where KAVA improvised ambient soundscapes between main stage acts. Their 7th full length studio release, KAVA..with Love, was tracked in an earthhouse outside Boulder by Grammy winning engineer Rollin Weary. Over the course of the next 18 month the 3 members of KAVA met in Chicago, Denver and Lone Pine, CA to edit, add layers and write new pieces using instruments like handpan, balafon and a wide range of analog synths. KAVA first formed in Chicago as an original project of the core members of AfroZep. Early influences were groups like The Mars Volta, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath however a few years later Wilson moved to Denver and Ryan to California. The band recorded an all electronic album Transmissons sending files back and forth over email with regular online meetings (before the rest of the world learned how to do this in 2020). Redhawk Vol 1 and Vol 2 were both from the same initial tracking session at a cabin in Fariplay CO then worked on throughout multiple cities before finally being mixed and mastered by Rollin, who at this point became somewhat of a 4th band member.
