Biography

Violinist Julian Azkoul is in demand as an ensemble leader, soloist, recording artist and arranger, appearing as guest director of Camerata Nordica in Sweden, guest leader of Camerata Venia in Switzerland and guest first violinist of the Jubilee and Piatti quartets. He has co-led UK orchestras such as the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, toured with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, and also featured as a soloist with the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Nordica and several chamber orchestras. He regularly performs at major international festivals and venues with the London Symphony Orchestra, Geneva Chamber Orchestra, London Contemporary Orchestra, Les Siècles and the United Strings of Europe. He is the co-leader of Camerata Alma Viva and the first violinist of the Aurea String Quartet. As artistic director of the United Strings of Europe, he directs from the violin, curates programmes and projects, and arranges music for the ensemble. A number of Julian Azkoul’s arrangements appeared on the ensemble’s debut album 'In Motion' (BIS-2529) and his transcription of Gareth Farr’s Mondo Rondo is published by Promethean Editions. He releases music with BIS Records and also has a keen interest in Middle Eastern music.
