Drawing on a profound knowledge of musical style, Philipp von Steinaecker is a thoughtful, versatile conductor, whose reputation is growing steadily, whether for German Romantic, Second Viennese School, or Baroque repertoire, through his work with period-instrument musicians and groups including Musica Saeculorum. Steinaecker served as Principal Guest Conductor of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. His list of orchestras continues to expand, and includes Gürzenich, Scottish Chamber, Tokyo Metropolitan and Mahler Chamber orchestras. He also brings his stylistic authority to opera, with critically acclaimed productions including Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, Die Csárdásfürstin at the Teatro Comunale in Bolzano, and Gounod’s La colombe at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana. Steinaecker is committed to education, developing young musicians through his work with the Paris Conservatoire and the Mahler Academy, where he is Artistic Director. In 2022 he brought together professionals and young musicians from all over Europe for the Academy’s new ‘originalklang’ project. This pioneering endeavour, using a carefully selected collection of period instruments, aims to rediscover the original sound of Mahler's Viennese orchestra.
