Biography

James Van Cooper is the New Australian Rock n Roll - for people who are tired of bands playing it too safe. James began touring at 15 years old in various versions of bands all leading up to his first solo release Highrise Skyline in 2017, produced by Australian Country music legend Bill Chambers. James then followed this up with a year of touring around Australia and Europe before setting his sights on a new record - Coming Home, recorded in Los Angeles in the Begining of 2018 which debuted in the iTunes Top 10. With this came 2 more years of touring not only as an artist but as a guitarist for acts such as Kate Ceberano, Glenn Shorrock, Steve Kilbey, Shannon Noll, Steve Balbi, Wendy Mathews, Ross Wilson, Shane Howard and more. Since 2017 James has been a member of Australian New Wave punk idols Mi-Sex. 2023 has come with new focus and vision for James as he braces himself for the release of new music backed by his band The Jimmies (featuring Joel Burton on Bass- The voice live band, Lachy Doley Group, Trav New on lead guitar - Andrew Ferris, Morgan Evans, Sineas Burgess, Jasmine Rae, Mi-Sex) . “Gold” the first single from his forthcoming EP is a return to his initial intent. To go back to when things in life were as simple as a feeling, a song to get out of the comfort of lockdowns and isolations - all with a wink and his tongue firmly in his cheek.
