He has played with visiting American jazz musicians such as Phil Woods, Grant Stewart, Al Jarreau, Patti Austin, Marlena Shaw and John Marshall and toured the UK with leading UK saxophonist Dave O Higgins.
In 2012, after spending time as a sideman in many London based groups, Rob formed his own trio with drummer Joshua Morrison led to regular performances at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club opening for The Louis Hayes quartet, The Kenny Barron Trio and Cecile McClorin Salvant.
His first album, the self released What’s In Store, featuring guitarist Colin Oxley and Stacey Kent sidemen Jeremy Brown and Joshua Morrison was released in 2016 to great critical acclaim and was featured in Peter Vacher’s top ten jazz albums of the same year in Jazzwise magazine as well as gaining a 4 star review.
Rob’s playing style evokes a quality and touch reminiscent of the great blue note pianists such as Cedar Walton, Sonny Clark and Hank Jones and these influences have played a great influence in both his arranging and improvising style.
