Fusing African traditional music elements other genres, Yao King-Eli is carving out his own path with his unique sounds and distinct voice. Born and raised in Madina, Accra-Ghana. As a young boy growing up in Madina, he had a deep appreciation and admiration for music but as he would say; ‘football was my first love, the dream was to become a footballer'. His love for music was still strong even though he never considered a career in music. In an attempt to fill the void created by boredom during his days in the university mainly because of low-class attendance, he started exposing himself to different sounds and in the course of that stumbled upon some amazing African music legends like Osibisa, Fela Kuti, Youssou N’dour, Salif Keita, Angelique Kidjo, Johnny Clegg, etc. Intrigued by the sounds of the melodies created by African instruments and the sounds of the traditional drums, a passion for African traditional music was discovered. Yao King-Eli aims to make universally accepted music, merging different worlds of music by fusing traditional African music with different genres and influences. Only with one song to this name so far titled ‘Cross Border’, an Afro Hip Hop song with Mal Inthe Booth. Also been featured on an Afrobeats song titled “Girlfriend”, by two of Ghana’s best in the alternative scene. He is expected to release more songs and hopefully capture the hearts and souls of music lovers within and beyond the borders.
