While not performing keys for the chart rising alt quintet, Fake Shark, Jake Fox is steadily building a canon of songs he describes as “voicemails from the apocalypse” the sense of normalcy and cinematic quality around catastrophic global events seems to infect his output at every level. Influenced by an unending wave of Netflix binges and apocalyptic news coverage, Fox internalizes the outrageous and outputs dark synth/rock in the vain of Interpol, LCD Soundsystem and Wolf Parade. Following the start of the pandemic in 2020 Fox released Blank Cinema’s first full length. His 11-track ode to quitting day-jobs, becoming an insect to survive a nuclear fallout, the stories of Philip K Dick, and day-dreams of being Agent 99 from Maxwell Smart. The mission was to create a rich-textured New Wave record somewhere under the influence of David Byrne, James Murphy and Rivers Cuomo. Following that 2020 release Fox has released 6 singles in the last 2 years including “Nothing Is Holy” written as a break-up letter to a former president, and “Lifeboat” about friendships lost for fear of going down with the ship. Blank Cinema won 1st place for his remix of Gang Signs “Mate” in an international remix competition, has garnered radio play throughout Canadian college radio stations, as well as in the UK and has received multiple TV/Film synch placements. The band is returning to perform live throughout British Columbia and elsewhere.
