Hailed by Fanfare as “a brilliant pianist who has done as much as anyone for contemporary music,” pianist Michael Boriskin’s performances have taken him to 30 countries, including the San Francisco, Utah, and Seattle Symphonies, American Composers Orchestra, UNAM Philharmonic of Mexico City, Munich and Polish National Radio Orchestras, Lincoln and Kennedy Centers, Carnegie Hall, BBC, Theatre des Champs-Elysées, Vienna’s Arnold Schoenberg Center, and the Ravinia, Tanglewood, Gilmore, Bard, Caramoor, and LaJolla Music Festivals. He has recorded extensively for Naxos, SONY Classical, Bridge, Arabesque, Albany, and other labels, and conceived and hosted CENTURYVIEW, an NPR series about piano music of the past 100 years. He has worked with virtually every major American composer of the past 40 years; is a frequent guest of leading educational institutions; and is an accomplished writer whose work has been published by the Library of Congress, Schirmer Books, and numerous periodicals. He served as Music Director of Mikhail Baryshnikov’s fabled White Oak Dance Project, and has been an artistic projects advisor or program consultant for the U.S. State Department, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Columbia University’s Miller Theater, and others. As Artistic and Executive Director of Copland House, he has led this award-winning creative center for American Music to global prominence, and is a mainstay of its Music from Copland House ensemble and its COPLAND HOUSE BLEND recording label.
