Mixing introspective lyricism and boom bap influence with soulful, moody, alternative R&B-- Jamien Pride is an MC, songwriter, producer and audio engineer with a penchant for downtempo BPM. A North Carolina native, Pride's earliest memories of music are rooted in church. He was raised in a religious family, under the influence of southern gospel and boundaries prohibiting exposure to secular music. The enticement of the forbidden led Pride to borrow friends' CD players for access to a new wave of musical expression. At age 10, Pride began writing rap verses after discovering the power of hip-hop. Throughout middle and high school, he continued to hone his pen and grew in lyricism and savvy for storytelling. His greatest musical influences span a wide range: Andre 3000, Biggie, Common, John Coltrane, Coldplay, Fleetwood Mac, Teddy Pendergrass, Radiohead, RHCP, Marvin Gaye, etc. After moving to California and serving five years in the Marine Corps, Pride released his first solo EP, Northern Lights, in 2012. Graduating with a degree in Audio Engineering, he mastered the skills to create music on his own terms to find his authentic sound.
