Biography

To begin 2023, RJ presents his second EP 'Uncut Gems'. Taking inspiration from the 2019 Safdie Brothers' Film of the same name, starring Adam Sandler, RJ's vision was to create a musical representation of the chaotic beauty he felt when watching that film and, like all his music, make that representation personal to him. 'Take Me Somewhere' explores RJ's internal thoughts where he hones in on elements of his past behaviour, relationships and makes reference to the chaos he once existed in, whilst contrasting that with more current thoughts of self care, honest reflection and unwavering self belief. Ultimately, this influx of overthinking can often get too much and leaves RJ wishing to be somewhere else or at least "out of his head". 'Lone Wolf' takes the listener on a journey from where RJ's music started, his belief in being more hard working at his craft than other "barers" from his local area and the harsh reality that although he often feels alone, that's also a place in which he thrives and feels most at home. In 'Quarter to Three', RJ reflects on being a man who has grown a lot through the things he has faced and worked on, and a man focused on building a better future for himself and those he cares about. RJ isn't afraid to show love and credit to those who have inspired him or assist him on his own creative journey and feels that it's now time that he has some light shed on himself, too.
